CONNECT MESSAGE, Atmosphere : Hungry for God Above All

1 June 2024 by Ps. Julian Kirtisingham

Gen 25:29-34
29 Once when Jacob was cooking some stew, Esau came in from the open country, famished (extremely hungry).
30 He said to Jacob, “Quick, let me have some of that red stew! I’m famished!” (That is why he was also called Edom.)

31 Jacob replied, “First sell me your birthright.”

32 “Look, I am about to die,” Esau said. “What good is the birthright to me?”

33 But Jacob said, “Swear to me first.” So he swore an oath to him, selling his birthright to Jacob.

34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.

“Trade me your rights as the first born son.”

·      Legacy

·      A decision that will have generational and eternal impact

Gen 25:34

34 Then Jacob gave Esau some bread and some lentil stew. He ate and drank, and then got up and left. So Esau despised his birthright.

Showed contempt.

What are you hungery for above all?

·      God or Material Wealth

·      God or World

Matt22:37-40

37 Jesus replied: “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’
38
This is the first and greatest commandment.
39 And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’
40
All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”

Heb 12:14-17
14
Make every effort to
live in peace with everyone and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord.
15 See to it that no one falls short of the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.
16 See that no one is sexually immoral, or is
godless like Esau, who for a single meal sold his inheritance rights as the oldest son.
17 Afterward, as you know, when he wanted to inherit this blessing, he was rejected. Even though he sought the blessing with tears, he could not change what he had done.

Trading the eternal for the temporal is an accurate picture of how we can relate to the grace of God and the person of Jesus.

Questions: What can we do to cultivate a hunger for God above all?
1. Personally – Watch your appetites

2. Collectively – Continue to look out for each other

Discussion

1.     Is there anything in your life that could be spoiling your appetite for God?

2.     What can we do to ensure that together we remain “hungry for God above all”?

NEW SS12 CONNECT

Our 4th meet up after multiplication in April 2024. We had a consistent attendance of 7-10 for the past 2 months (include visitors).

Momentum of this new connect is building up with relationship goes stronger. Also get to know better on individual strength and short coming with this small group.

Praise God that each individual was willing to share openly on the struggle of hungry for God above all. We found that many of us have common challenges in our daily schedule. Thank God that we have a collective platform in the connect to overcome these struggles together.

We end the connect discussion with each one praying for other person. Many requested to pray for salvation of love ones.

After the meeting, we adjourned to Klang Berkeley for dinner & desert. Further sharing of testimonies was done on the dinning table. We spent a great time together!
