A Letter From Jonathan Achu

Dear Residents of SS12,

On behalf of the Committee of Road Reps, I wish to thank all those who helped in one way or another to make the official launch of G&G community project at SS12/2A - D on 31 Oct 09 a success. Despite the morning drizzle, many of you turned up. We believe that you are just as happy as we are to see our hope of having a secured and safe community finally become a reality. To finally have some sense of security in our neighborhood makes the past 3 months of tiring hard walk and work worth it. It is a new beginning and a breath of fresh air for all of us, our children, grandchildren and the households.

Enough of feeling trapped in our own home like in the past due to the high crime rates in our neighbourhood. We believe there is sense of relief and peace in the neighbourhood at last now. Congratulations to all of you who have given your full support for this G & G Security Scheme pilot project. Without your overwhelming support, this would have been impossible.

Nevertheless, let us not let our guard down where safety is concerned. We urge all residents to continue to observe safety as we must note that the barricades are still passable to pedestrians at all times. As we all know, criminals these days have become very sophisticated with their "skills" in carrying out their evil deeds.

We must mention that as it is with all new things, when changes are made, we will face some measure of inconveniences in some areas. But we would like to look at these challenges as teething problems that will only help us to evaluate and further fine-tune and improve the system as we go along.

Some of the inconveniences we are looking at are:

a) the residents have to take a little longer drive to exit or enter their respective roads due to the barricades
b) the residents have to slow down to allow the guards to check car stickers
c) the guards need some time to familiarise themselves with the residents and to weed out undesireable elements

All these processes will cause some inconvenience. However, for the well-being of the neighborhood we hope that we all will adjust positively to these new security measures.

So on behalf of the committee, I thank all residents for taking these in your stride and for cooperating with the guards on duty for a meaningful and successful implementation of the G & G project.

Please be informed that after the first week of the launch, the guards have been told to be stricter with theitr duties. Kindly have your car stickers in place and in time. Your cooperation is much appreciated.

We admit that what we have put in place is far from a perfect scheme but we are going through the learning curve now. As a committed and united community, we are confident to overcome challenges and to improve and move towards a more caring and safer neighborhood.

Also take note that as and when SS/12E and SS12/4 is included in the G&G project, the guard post and the barricades will be shifted to new site.

Please do join us every Sunday at 6 pm at the SS12/2C - SS12/2D children's playground gazebo to share your thoughts on improving the G&G community scheme.

Together we shall grow.

Warmest regards,

Jonathan Achu
