Study Material : Exodus Chapter 7

Revelation from:-

a.      Exodus 7:9…..”…Do a miracle…….”
Exodus 7:11…..”…and sorcerers and the magicians of Egypt by their secret arts did the same thing….”
Exodus 7:12…..”…Aaron’s staff swallowed up their staffs….”
Exodus 7:13…..”…Yet Pharaoh’s heart became hard, and he did not listen to them…….”

                                                               i.      Pharaoh focused on the miracle and did not pay much attention to the source of the miracle.
ii.      Pharaoh wanted to be the winner of the miracle performance.
iii.      Yet he became the loser in the competition.
iv.      The power of God is stronger than any other gods.
                                                           v.      Though he had lost, he did not want to admit his limitation as compared to the power of God.

b.      Exodus 7:20…”…Moses raised the staff and struck the water that was in the Nile right before the eyes of Pharaoh…..”
Exodus 7:22…”…But the magicians of Egypt did the same…..”
Exodus 7:22…”…Pharaoh’s heart remained hard and he refused to listen to Moses and Aaron…..”
Exodus 7:23…”…Pharaoh turned and went into his house. He did not pay any attention to this…..”

                                                               i.      Water is the source of life. River Nile is located in the centre of Egypt. It was the source of water in the desert. Egyptians can only survive if they live along the riverbank. Turning water in Nile River to blood is like cutting off the source of life of Egyptians.
ii.      Instead of reversing the miracle to save the Egyptians, Pharaoh made the situation worse by increasing the disaster effect to show his power.
iii.      Pharaoh’s cruelty was shown through his brutal reaction without considering the suffer of his own people.
iv.      He ignored the consequences of his action and went into his own secured and sheltered palace.
    v.      The blood was a warning sign to Pharaoh that what He would do in the end, to kill all the first born of Egyptians. God was merciful for not doing it immediately in the first miracle.

2Reflection :
a.       Is our faith based on miracles or the source of the miracles?
b.      Think about some magic power performed by the power of darkness that misled us to believe that they are the real God.
c.       Is winning in a brutal competition more important than the people around us who are suffering?
