Study Material : Exodus Chapter 9

Progress :
1.       Revelation from:-
a.      Exodus 9:4…..”…the Lord will distinguish between the livestock of Israel and the livestock of Egypt…….”
Exodus 9:6…..”…the livestock of the Egyptians died, but of the Israelites’ livestock not one died.”
Exodus 9:26…..”…Only in the land of Goshen, where the Israelites lived, was there no hail.”

                                                               i.      It was an obvious distinction between God’s people and others.
ii.      It was a manifestation of His protection on His people.

b.      Exodus 9:11”…The magicians could not stand before Moses because of the boils, for the boils were on the magicians as well as on all the Egyptians.…”

                                                               i.      We can observe the progression of the disaster from external to internal and from things to livestock and from people to magicians:-
·         Water to blood -> External suffer of the people
·         Frogs                     -> External suffer of the people
·         Gnats                    -> External suffer of the people
·         Flies                       -> External suffer of the people
·         Disease                   -> Dead of livestock
·         Boils                       -> Body suffer of the people and magicians
·         Hail                         -> External suffer of the people

ii.      King Pharaoh had not felt the pain on himself yet.

c.       Exodus 9:20-21…”… 20 The one among the servants of Pharaoh who feared the word of the Lord made his servants and his livestock flee into the houses; 21 but he who paid no regard to the word of the Lord left his servants and his livestock in the field..…”

                                                               i.      Non-Israelites who feared the word of the LORD and took actions upon it had the chance to survive.
ii.      Sharing the word of God to others is very important as it may rescue those who respond to it.

d.      Exodus 9:31-32…31 Now the flax and the barley were ruined, for the barley was in the ear and the flax was in bud. 32 But the wheat and the spelt were not ruined, for they ripen late.)

                                                               i.      Though God was stern on his work of destruction(by Law) but He was also merciful(by Grace) to the Egyptians.
ii.      He left some rooms for them to survive so that they might come to repentance.

2.       Reflection :
a.       Sharing the  word of God should become part of our lifestyle as many may come to know Him through our words and actions.
b.      God is also merciful to pagans. Share the word of God with them in peace, love and compassion.
